Engr. Akhtar Hamid Khan is a senior professional of the power sector with over three decades of diversified experience in power generation, transmission, and distribution. He is currently serving as Chief Executive Officer of Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) since February 2024.
He holds a Master of Science (MS) in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering & Technology, Peshawar. He is also an elected member of the Governing Body of the Pakistan Engineering Council, representing Electrical Engineers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
During his extensive career, he has held a number of key technical and managerial positions within PESCO, including Chief Engineer Development (PMU), Project Director (Electricity Distribution Efficiency Improvement Project - EDEIP), Superintending Engineer, and Director Material Management. In these roles, he has been instrumental in planning and execution of development projects, including construction of 132 kV grid stations and transmission lines, improvement of distribution infrastructure, and implementation of modern technologies aimed at enhancing system efficiency and reliability.
He has been actively involved in projects financed by international development partners, including the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and has contributed towards strengthening institutional capacity and improving service delivery standards. He has also participated in international conferences and seminars relating to energy and hydropower.
As Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Akhtar Hamid Khan is responsible for overall management of the Company, including strategic planning, operational performance, financial management, and regulatory compliance. He is committed to improving efficiency, reducing system losses, and ensuring reliable power supply to consumers in PESCO’s operational jurisdiction.
